Directors Statement

I was inspired to write, direct and star in this film, Girl at Mirror, as a cathartic interpretation of my life’s journey.

It's a response to years of not feeling seen in a creative way, and a reminder that only I need to see me—only I can give myself permission to create.

As children we dream about how we hope our lives will turn out, and as adults we often cling to those childhood dreams even when they don’t come to fruition. This can prevent us from living in the present and discovering a truer purpose.

The ideas I explore in Girl at Mirror reflect this lived reality, while also asserting that dreams don't ever have to die completely, they just look different as we get older. Casting my niece as the younger version of myself helped me root my performance in both the intense grief and hope of this journey.

I was inspired to shoot this film in black and white by my love for classic films. I love how the interplay of light and shadow can emotionally take viewers to the heights of their wildest dreams or into the depths of despair.

Girl at Mirror is a love poem to all us dreamers.
